At Home Hydration Facial with Nurse Lex

Nothing beats the experience of an in clinic treatment. This is where the targeted work takes place, where science, experience and professional grade products combine to deliver real-time results. However, not every day can be a spa day, so we encourage our clients to take the relaxation and rituals home with them as part of their bi-weekly selfcare and facial maintenance routine.

We caught up with Clinic Nurse & Founder Lex to unveil her favourite #athomehacks for treating yourself (and your skin) from the comfort of your own bathroom.

Curation is key

Curate a selection of products for your DIY treatment by using your intuition. What’s right for your skin in summer may not cut the mustard during the dry, cooler months of the year. Small swaps like switching out your foaming cleanser (which is great for removing the day’s grime and makeup but may also strip the skin of its precious natural oils) for an oil-based balm may help to rebalance and replenish the skin so it absorbs treatment products more efficiently.

Practice like a pro

When you are having a professional treatment, ask your aesthetician questions about the products they are using, and why they’re using them. You’ll soon learn a one size fits all approach should be left to the manufactures of the “snuggie” and that creating a customised, multistep routine will do your complexion all kinds of favours for achieving a radiant glow in between visits to the clinic. So with that said, below is my 6 step roadmap for achieving a plump, dewy complexion at home.

1/6 - CLEANSE

Using gentle circular motions, apply a milk or cream cleanser to your face, neck and décolletage. You have 20,000 pores on your face so make sure to work the product in all directions. This really helps to soften the skin & aids in the release of the deeply embedded grime from the pores. Make sure you do this step twice. Once to remove makeup, dirt and SPF and once to deep clean. At this stage I like to run a natural fibre face cloth under warm water then ring out and place over my face for a full minute. The steam will help to relax the pores, prepping the skin for stage two.

My product pick: Dermaviduals Cleansing Milk with DMS

2/6 - EXFOLIATE

I prefer a chemical exfoliant over physical as I find them to be less inflammatory to sensitive skins. The cream or solution is applied onto the skin for a few minutes and removed using a dampened tissue or face cloth. By removing and dissolving dead skin cells, a brighter more even complexion is instantly revealed.

My product pick: Dermaviduals DMS Peeling Cream

3/6 - PREP

I like to apply a tonic to the skin as it helps draw moisture into the complexion. This creates a pathway so your other products will penetrate deeper. Think of it like a drink of water for the face.

My product pick: Dermaviduals Face Tonic

4/6 - MASK

Choose a mask infused with a potent blend of vitamins for added antioxidant protection. Not only will you be helping to reinforce the quality of your skin which ultimately helps prevent premature ageing but also improves elasticity, tone, and texture. Leave on for at least 10 minutes then tissue off.

5/6 – HYDRATE

Now to moisturise and lock in all that goodness. Be wary when choosing a moisturiser, look for high quality plant derived ingredients like shea butter and squalane, both of which are excellent for restoring moisture levels and revitalizing the complexion. And of course remember your face ends at your décolletage, don’t scrimp when it comes to applying all the way down your neck and chest. You’ll thank me later.

My product pick: Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream Classic

6/6 – EYES

The skin around your eyes is especially sensitive and needs an extra measure of TLC. Complete your at-home pamper session with an eye serum, cream, or gel. Most eye products are super concentrated, so a pea-size amount is all you need for both eyes. Use your ring finger since it naturally has the lightest touch. You don’t want to put too much pressure & tug the delicate skin.

My product pick: Dermaviduals Eye Gel Plus

Oh, and if you’re trying this in the morning don’t even think about leaving the house without a good dose of SPF.

Over & out.
